I'm in the process of updating this area of the tree, having only recently gained a lot of information via Brian Taylor in Canada, and from Aileen Kerr in Troon. I'll be using the email addresses brian very kindly sent me to pester other relatives for information with a view to fleshing this area out even further.

Arthur Taylor married Sarah (Katherine Sarah Allcorn, but known as Sarah) on 27th July 1901. They were both 23 when they tied the knot.

Arthur was an engineer, and was living at 104 Greengates, Barrow-in-Furness when they were married.
Sarah went into service a a nanny, and worked for several families.

They had seven children, of whom my grandmother, Maud, was the second-youngest. The first four were born in Barrow in Furness, the three youngest at 1283 Dumbarton Road, Scotstoun. There is some question about the names of the children. It seems that Sarah had a thing about changing names:

SydneySid
MurielMolly
LillianLily
EnidEthel

That does introduce a bit of confusion when it comes to tracing them, although there is some debate about Enid. Apparently, there was a cousin called Ethel who was quite high up in the forces.

Ernest had two sons, Brian and Ernest. Brian lives in Canada, and has helped me to correct some of the details on these pages.

I met Muriel/Molly several times, the last time when she spent a few months in an old folks home near Lanark. I never knew her given name was actually Muriel, but I assume that my Aunt Muriel was named after her. She had some amazing stories to tell, of how the first computer in Scotland had been introduced into the place she was working. She retained her mental faculties right up to the end, and remained sharp, wise and witty - although she was hugely frustrated when she lost her eyesight and became physically impaired.

One of Lillian's grandchildren, Graeme Kerr, is currently living in New Zealand with his lovely girlfriend, Jo Thomson. This has given me a great opportunity to get to know the extended family a bit better, an endeavour that has been made all the more rewarding on account of Graeme and Jo being such delightful people!

Ethel/Enid died in her early teens. On the day of her funeral, there was a bad storm, and the chimney stack from the building came through the roof. The story goes that the chimney landed on the bed under which was a metal trunk. It was believed that this is what stopped the stack from going right through the building to the ground floor.
