In the finest Scottish tradition, both Ronalds get called Ronnie. I used to babysit Helen, Ronnie and Heather when they were younger. They were really well-behaved kids. Or at least, they were when I was looking after them. And there was a piano in the house, which suited me down to the ground. Music was always a part of the household, as recall, and young Ronnie plays in a band these days called The Heartworn Highways.

My late Uncle Ronnie had a fine singing voice, and tried to encourage me to maintain an interest in musical theatre after my junior seminary had closed. I did go along for an audition with him, but I was too nervous and insecure to continue; and too young at the time to articulate that.

Like his father, Ronnie died tragically young. It was all the more shocking because he looked after his health, ate properly, got plenty of exercise, etc. It was a result of his sudden death that we discovered the heart condition that affects this side of the family.

For some reason, I tend of think of my Auntie Ellen as being the most gentle of all my relatives. She is quite softly spoken, and there is a warmth about her that is really soothing.

I have fond memories of seeing them on Christmas Eve every year when I went round distributing presents from my mum and dad.

I recently got an email from Helen to fill me in with some more recent details. She now works for Coca cola as a sales rep, and lives in Cambusnethan with her boyfriend David. They've been together almost three years, now.

Ronnie is seeing a girl called Suzanne, and plays with his band every Friday night in a place called The Cherry Tree in Netherton. He's really good!

Heather currently at universiy studying to be a primary school teacher. She works part time at Celtic Park, and has been known to do a bit of time as a Club 18-30 rep.
